Death in the Afternoon (Improved)
Ernest Hemingway was a madman for this. The original Death in the Afternoon from Hemingway's original recipe called for 1½ oz of Absinthe and 4 oz of Champagne into an unchilled glass, UNDILUTED. Drinking 3-5 of these in succession would be 💀. As someone pointed out in the comments, the original quote was actually to 'drink 3-5 of these SLOWLY' - which makes way more sense (I think). Big props to @anderserickson who found a way to make it a more balanced and palatable recipe. Cheers y'all.
ingredients:
1 oz | 30 ml Absinthe (I used Absente)
¼ oz | 7.5 ml Fresh Lemon Juice
¼ oz | 7.5 ml Semi-Rich Simple Syrup (1.5:1)
3 oz | 90 ml Champagne
instructions:
Add absinthe, lemon juice, and simple syrup to a mixing glass with ice. Stir until chilled, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Top with Champagne and serve.
