OG Mint Julep
Ok, but seriously, fill up those atomizers…
It’s time to use that mint simple syrup from yesterday, today we’re making an OG mint julep the right way. I’ve heard tell of folks in KY putting some funky Jamaican rum on top o their juleps before. If you know me, you know how much I love funky rum (funky in a ripe banana way, not in a 70’s jazz way - actually maybe both?).
Anyways, it adds a level of complexity, fruitiness and sweetness to an already delicious drink. Try it out this weekend and let me know below how you’re celebrating the @kentuckyderby!
ingredients:
2½ oz | 75 ml Bourbon
½ oz | 15 ml Mint Simple Syrup
Atomized Jamaican Rum (I used Smith & Cross)
8 Mint Leaves
Mint Sprig (Garnish)
instructions:
Add bourbon, simple syrup, and mint leaves to a julep glass. Muddle gently. Fill half way with crushed or pebble ice and stir vigorously. Top with more crushed/pebble ice (think snow cone here). Atomize Jamaican Rum over top. Garnish with a mint sprig and a julep spoon.

Style is personal. So why should your cocktail try to copy somebody else’s?
I teamed up with my friends at Ralph Lauren Fragrances to build a cocktail around their Ralph’s Club New York Parfum, and the fragrance did most of the talking. Black currant, cognac, oud wood. That’s basically a drink order.
So we built a Manhattan style sipper with cognac as the base, swapped the sweet vermouth for creme de cassis and a touch of dry vermouth, added a barspoon of absinthe and a few dashes of bitters, then finished it with an expressed lemon twist for brightness. Given the NY roots on this bottle, I’m calling it The State of Mind.
Cheers, y’all!
