Wisconsin Old Fashioned
Itās time to finally try the Wisconsin Old Fashioned š„
I donāt think I know of any other classic cocktail thats so heavily disputed by an entire region. Iāve been drinking old fashionedās for a while now and always have preferred them⦠the old fashioned way (ps. This is how the drink got its name - spirit, bitters, sugar + water). Wisconsinites will always slide into the comments section asking where the muddled orange and cherries are, so today weāre going to try it out.
Have you revisited this lately, what are your thoughts?
Thanks to @highproofpreacher for the new HPP challenge coin š„
Tomato-Tini
Iām convinced this is the martini of the summer š
šø
This is long overdue, but I finally had to try the Tomato Martini (aka Tomato-Tini aka Tomato-tini) created by my friend drinksbyevie. If youāre a fan of dirty (read: filthy) savory martinis then this one is for you. I added just a slight kiss of MSG to this one just to highlight a bit of the natural MSG in tomatoes and I thought it worked out beautifully.
Have you made this recipe yet?
Charro Negro
The Charro Negro is the official #DrinkofSummer2024
Stir with a spoon. Dont @ me.
Chartreuse Daiquiri
The daiquiri you didnāt know you wanted.
Happy #NationalDaiquiriDay - figured Iād kick off yāalls weekend with a solid sipper here. A classic daiq with the addition of Chartreuse and sea salt is the jam and you need to make it immediately.
Cheers yāall.
Chocolate Orange Carajillo
Donāt drink an espresso martini, drink this instead šāļøš«
Weāre here in Palm Desert, CA with my friends at almaveto create a non-alcoholic riff on a Carajillo. This recipe utilizes their Ambar, which is their agave-based spiritless āblue agave spiritā. Similar to tequila, #Almave is made from the same blue agave but skips the fermentation process where the liquid becomes alcohol. In addition to the notes of chocolate and orange, Almave adds the rich agave flavors that pair perfectly with this cocktail. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
Cheers yāall.
Near & Dear (Batched Recipe)
Hereās your new favorite āFreezer Doorā cocktail.
Just wanted a quick second to feature my dude Joey Goetz of lastsaintchs. Heās doing us a favor by showing us how to make a batch of SIX bottles of liquid gold - aka a chocolate + coconut-fat washed Negroni. My god, this was so good.
āCoconut and Chocolate visit a classic Negroni in an updated take on everyoneās favorite gin cocktail.
We build our standard house negroni, add Cacao Nibs and Coconut Oil to fat wash and infuse the entire cocktail. Freeze it and then strain everything off. It give you a classic negroni backbone but with wonderful notes of coconut and chocolate to compliment.ā
Cheers yāall!
Tequila Desert Bird
All the Jungle Bird vibes⦠in the Desertā¦
We're in Palm Desert, California. Everyone knows how much I love a Jungle Bird, but I wanted to create a version fit for the desert, which of course involves using #Tequila1940Blanco. This recipe combines two techniques, a stir and a shake. The latter to product a salted pineapple tiki foam that perfectly compliments the Rosita-like cocktail underneath. It's light, tropical and absolutely delicious for any occasion but just so fitting in this desert heat. Let me know what y'all think! Pro-tip: Fresh pineapple juice produces the frothiest results, if you're using canned pineapple juice, add agave nectar instead of orgeat to get a creamier foam. Cheers y'all!
La Louisiane
Meet the Vieux CarrĆ©ās American Cousin, La Lousiane.
Hereās another stirred cocktail with roots in Louisiana. This recipe first appeared in 1937 and was the house cocktail at the historic New Orleans restaurant of the same name. Itās a rye-forward cousin to the Vieux CarrĆ© and still maintains the delicate balance despite the addition of rye and absinthe.
This is one youāve got to try, cheers yāall.
Salted Chocolate Oaxacan Old Fashioned
Ever paired salted dark chocolate with an aÅejo? š¤Æ
Weāre here in Palm Desert and together with my friends at tresgeneracionestequila, Iāve created a take on a modern classic in the Oaxacan Old Fashioned by adding elements of dark chocolate
and sea salt. #TresGeneraciones AƱejo stands well on its own but since weāre making an Old Fashioned here, I figured chocolate would pair well with the rich toasted oak notes in the aÅejo as well. Adding just that pinch of salt also accentuates the flavors of chocolate + citrus and brings out more of the roasted agave with each sip. If youāre looking for an Old Fashioned recipe for the summer, this might just be your new go-to.
Cheers yāall.
The Vaporetto
This Venetian twist on a Bicicletta - The Vaporetto š¤
Itās #spritzszn so today weāre making some with my friends at bonterra. Unlike a Bicicletta, this one will use a base of Bonterraās RosĆ©, which uses 100% certified organic grapes that give this wine a dry, crisp but fruity palate with an acidic finish. The addition of Cappelletti enhances the grapefruit notes in this wine and is accentuated by the hint of Meyer lemon in the soda water.
Itās light, refreshing and very crushable.
Cheers yāall!
Basil Limoncello Spritz
The lemon-forward spritz youāve been looking for š
Together with my friends at luxardousa weāre making a Limoncello Spritz to soak up all the #AperitivoHour vibes this summer. This one uses #Luxardo Limoncello which is made the old-fashioned way in Italy, using the traditional method of infusing alcohol with lemon peels, pulp and juice with REAL lemons harvested in southern Italy. Their Limoncello isnāt just great in a spritz, it can be enjoyed straight up and chilled, or on the rocks with soda or tonic water as well.
As with any spritz, keep it easy and fun! I encourage you to add a fun garnish to add a fun garnish of your own. I used basil to keep with the Italian flavors but also because we know how well basil pairs with the brightness of lemon.
Anyways, I hope you give this one a try this summer!
Nice and Toasty
Mmm⦠nice and toasty.
Fall and cool weather is just around the corner to create the perfect stirred tequila recipe just for the occasion. Check it out below, cheers yāall.
Burnt Sugar Old Fashioned
As the old saying goes: When life gives you āburntā syrup, make an Old Fashioned?
What happens when you leave your rich demerara syrup on the stove for too long? Yup. Youāre left with a sticky mess to clean up for about an hour. But the byproduct is this amazingly rich, dark, bittersweet syrup that has notes of toffee and dark roast coffee. I know I didnāt invent this and burnt sugar syrup is used widely in other cuisines. My mom and grandma would even make something similar to coat their decadent flan but WHY did it take me this long to make it myself and use it in a cocktail? Itās so dang good. Up next: a Daiquiri.
The Smoky OG Bramble
šTrick or Treat! The full moon is out tonight so Iām whipping up something spooky for #Halloween š»
Clarified New York Sour
Let me make this clearā¦
Together with my friends at @bonterra, Iāve clarified one of my favorite cocktails, The New York Sour. Traditionally made with bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup then topped with red wine. In this case, Iām clarifying this cocktail using the milk punch technique where we use the acid in lemon juice to bind with the milk solids to produce a crystal clear, delicate and delicious whiskey sour. Today Iām using Bonterraās Pinot Noir to compliment due to its rich and bold notes that is the perfect floater for this cocktail.
Cheers yāall!
The Tiki Bramble
āOhhh weāre halfway there...ā
If you didnāt at least sing the last part in your head, youāre not human. Anyways, hereās a new mid-week recipe for yāall to celebrate. Cheers yāall!
Bruleeād Banana Boulevardier
Ew, a caramelized bananaā -
No one ever This recipe combined the traditional elements of a classic Boulevardier but enhanced it with caramelized banana, which pairs amazingly well with Amontillado sherry in lieu of vermouth. This was one of my favorite cocktails last year, definitely make this one!
Hiro High Ball
Itās all in the detailsā¦
Big thanks to my friends at holycitystrawcompany for making these custom holycityhandcraft bamboo straws, perfect for Collins cocktails (they make shorter ones too!). Did you know bamboo straws are more sustainable than paper? Well now you doā¦
Anyway, figured the bamboo straws are a perfect accompaniment to this single malt highball recipe! Check it out below.

Watermelon High Sea
Itās watermelon szn and #WorldBeeDay? Letās cook ššÆš
This recipe combines a couple of my favorite things: gin, honey, basil, watermelon with an addition of a bitter aperitif in Select and a pinch of smoked sea salt just to bring out more of the fruity flavors in this cocktail. Of course this is going to be served over crushed ice which will let the drink evolve a bit as you drink it.
Cheers yāall.
