Read MoreNew whiskey/different day - recently had the opportunity to try out @blackenedamericanwhiskey - a project by THE MAN, @davepickerell (of @makersmark and @whistlepigwhiskey). Its 56% bourbon, 43% rye and 1% corn, finished in black brandy casks. I figured it would hold up really well in a stiff riff on a spicy NY Sour. Recipe below!

Read MoreOk, so Iāll admit I was a big btparsons fan before, but I had the honor of taking his Amaro class at BenConCHS and was completely blown away. Luckily, Charleston, SC was a stop on his āAmaroā book tour and I had the opportunity to pick his brain (again) at @edmundsoast while he was in town. He was knowledgeable, down-to-earth and one of the coolest authors Iāve had the honor of meeting. The cure for all those Sunday scaries šš„
Together with my friends at @blackenedamericanwhiskey, we took the traditional elements of a classic Boulevardier but enhanced it with caramelized banana and some torched absinthe to create something unique and familiar. BLACKENED American Whiskey provides a great base that provides both depth and richness to this already delicious recipe. Let me know what yāall think if you make it! #ad21+
Cheers yāall.
Itās like an Irish Coffee, but not.šāļø This enhanced version of the classic is still very easy to make and only takes a few more ingredients to execute. Chicory and coffee have always been a match made in heaven but together with an eight year old Irish Whisky like thequietmanwhiskey it just brings it to a whole other level. The notes of sweet vanilla and oak that is imparted from the barrel is on full display in this version of Irish coffee, only to be accentuated with a salted caramel foam to balance out the bitterness from the coffee.
Now cheers, and #HappyStPatricksDay.
An ode to my Filipino grandmother (Nanay) š„šµš
You know when you try a particular food or drink it just takes you back to place and time in your life or childhood? This is it for me. This recipeās flavors reminds me of my Nanay (Tagalog for āmomā - she was everyoneās mom) and her famous leche flan. She would make this recipe for every special occasion and it was always a crowd favorite. What set it apart was the incredible amount of balance in flavors, between the massive amount of lime zest in the condensed milk custard (think souped up key lime) and a caramel sauce that was just brought past caramelization, bringing a sweet, but nutty element to table. Iām honored to be able to create something to pay homage to those flavor profiles and the nostalgia that comes along with it.
Iāve been covering the chswineandfood going on seven years, but this year but I knew this year was special when I was asked to be a participant for a signature dinner with my friends at @pinkbellies and the world famous @pawkhrua. Our event is tomorrow, so make sure youāre following along on the accounts mentioned above and chswineandfood. If youāre going to make it to any other CHSWF events, let me know which ones!
