Charreada
¡Happy #CincoDeMayo, mis amigos!
.
I’m happy to bring you one of the most unique recipes from the Copper Bar the @patron Hacienda last week. We liked it so much, both @highproofpreacher and I posted about it without even coordinating haha Thanks to our dude @gingerbartender for providing the recipe!
.
A little background: The Charreada is a rodeo-like tradition dating back to the arrival of Spanish horsemanship to Mexico in the 16th century. Once a competition between Haciendas, it is now performed by teams of professional charros and is an important touchstone of Mexican culture. So there’s your fun fact for the day - now get out there and enjoy this day respectfully and responsibly, salud!
Fantastic Voyage
A fantastic voyage, you say? You can find that here.
In an effort to showcase some of the local restaurants/bars and amazing talent here in Charleston, SC. You can find this cocktail recipe at thequinteoysterbar or lowlandtavern tavern right in the heart of downtown Charleston. This take on a traditional Air Mail, an OG cocktail from the 1930s.
The Commercial Break
Still don’t know what to bring to that #SuperBowl Party? What about a bourbon cocktail? 🥃👌🏾
Tahonarita
Just because #CincoDeMayo is over doesn't mean we're done with Tequila cocktails.
.
If you're wondering about the "glassware" - its from the folks at tossware, a stylish, 100% recyclable and BPA-free alternative to using those traditional plastic containers. I can see myself using this for cocktails at the beach or pool this summer and as a bonus, they're 100% sustainable as well. This is #notanad - but after trying the product a couple times, I thought it would be a great product to share with y'all. Fun fact: they are NOT dishwasher safe... as my wife and I recently found out :D
Chiseled Grin
🙋🏾♂️ Raise your hand if bourbon + chocolate is your love language. I’m stoked to #partner up with @cooperscraft for #ValentinesDay to bring you an amazing cocktail to share with your significant other, in this case, my lovely wife… and yes, it has everything you could ever want for a romantic evening: bourbon and chocolate 😉
Pink Linen
Who needs a white linen when you can make it pink?
Together with my friends over at empress1908gin, we put together a spin on a traditional White Linen with Empress Elderflower Rose Gin. Elderflower and cucumber have always been a match made in heaven and the addition in this cocktail is no exception. Hope y’all enjoy this one!
The Calamansi Snaquiri
THE WORLD’S TINIEST DAIQUIRI 🍹
…lovingly nicknamed a ’Snaquiri’. This was the most requested cocktail for this #TinyCocktail series so I had to oblige. This rendition is made with fresh calamansi juice which is near and dear to my heart (since I am Filipino and all). If you haven’t had calamansi, I describe it as a cross between a bitter orange, lemon and yuzu. The addition of that grapefruit oil adds more of that citrus aroma but is optional.
NOTE: Replace “Parts” with Ounces below to make a full size Daiquiri.
Cheers y’all.
The JÄgerita
Finally revisiting Jäger… in Margarita form!
Happy #NationalMargaritaDay, figured this would be a good time as any to make the Jägerita since its been making the rounds on the interwebs. Tbh, I didn’t think I was going to like this cocktail but it totally works when you treat jagermeisterusa for what it is… an amaro/digestivo. What we made here is essentially an Amaro Sour, and a damn good one at that. Make it.
Cheers y’all.
Spiced Apple Spritz
Good morning Charleston! Check me out on lowcountrylive on abcnews4 this morning. I’ll be making a couple of holiday cocktails including this Spiced Apple Spritz made with stripedpigdistillery Spiced Rum… its Thanksgiving in a cup. Check out the recipe on http://holycityhandcraft.com (Link in bio)
Honey Basil Sour
C’mon honey let the good times roll…
Hope y’all aren’t getting tired of these summer cocktails yet because together with my friends over at hinecognacs, we created an easy and delicious recipe that will be a go-to over the next few months. The richness of honey, herbaciousness of basil + the foamy texture from the egg whites lends to perfect balance of flavors accentuated by this V.S.O.P. by my friends at #HINECognac - give this a try and let me know what you think.
Cheers y’all!
LowCountry Spritz
Found some inspiration in right place. Check out "SPRITZ" by taliabaiocchi of punchdrink and lesliepariseau of saveurmag for some great Italian food and spritz recipes. Cheers to the long weekend! 🍹🙌🏾
Venetian Paloma
You asked for more Paloma riffs, I gotchu!
This one subs the traditional salt rim with olive brine and it works SO well with the grapefruit in this recipe. Saline and aperitivos rend to accentuate the citrus notes and in this case, it brings out some of the grapefruit in Salers. Hope yall enjoy this one, it’d be a good one to batch.
Hole Mole
Did you miss the holycityhandcraft pop-up over at spectatorhotel a few weeks ago where me and @lancasterchucktown collaborated on THREE craft cocktails? If so, we got you fam... the cocktails are STAYING ON THE MENU at The Spectator Hotel's bar through the Spring. Make sure to stop by and check it out. Also, over the next few weeks I'll also be sharing our recipes for each cocktail!
Wednesday not Tuesday
Well’p, if y’all have been following along, you know that two of my favorite things are a stiff Boulevardier and coming up with twists on a classic. This one is no different, the herbal notes of Chartreuse with the addition of grapefruit bitters takes the place of Campari in a funky yet delicious variation. Give it a shot.
Blood Orange G&T
What’s better than a mimosa on Saturday morning? A bitter orange gin and tonic with a side of college football.
Coconut Negroni Syrup
Oh, y’all thought I was done with that Negroni-aged coconut? 🥥
Well in an effort to reduce waste and get every single bit of flavor out of that rum-Negroni aged coconut, I decided to make a syrup out of it. It’s definitely more coconut forward but still has hints of that Jamaican rum and Campari - but the question is… what should I make out of it?? Drop your suggestions below and I’ll make it this week!
Cheers y’all.
The Ambrose
Its no secret I love experimenting with new ingredients to create unique and original cocktails. I feel as though with the resurgence of the craft cocktail scene, cocktail syrups have been all the rage lately. I met Max Messier during bevconchs in Charleston this past month, and thats when he introduced me to the cocktailandsons Spiced Demerara Syrup. He explained it contained flavors such as baking spices, coriander and peppercorns, combined with 100% Louisiana cane sugar. needless to say, I had to take this bottle home, this was one of two of my creations…
Horse’s Neck
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for music festival szn.
Together with my friends at drinkhighwest, I want to share one of three cocktails that High West will be serving at this year’s High Water Festival (highwaterfest) here in Charleston. This cocktail is light, refreshing and pairs perfectly with great music. Let me know if you’ll be out at the festival this year and check out the recipe below while you’re at it!
Please drink responsibly. Cheers y’all.
