The Pig Pen
The holidays always remind of the fall/winter flavors and spices that go into everything we eat and imbibe during the season. I recently #partnered up with 1792 bourbon to create a custom cocktail that will tie in all these flavors into a simple cocktail⦠Can you keep a secret? It has to do with the spiced panela syrup. Infused with flavors that remind me of fall and winter, it ties in well with 1792 Bourbon due to the bourbonās high-rye content and spice-rich notes, alongside vanilla and caramel. Check out the recipe below and let me know what cocktail reminds you of the holidays! #1792 and #1792Bourbon
Butterfly Tea and T
šāØ It aināt magic until you drink itā¦
By now you are already familiar with the magical attributes of the Butterfly Pea Flower. While generally tasteless, the flowers are dried and made into tea. When brewed, turn into a dark blue hue - turns out letting it steep in room temperature gin does the same thing. The cool part about it is that anything acidic turns the liquidās hue from a deep blue into a bright pink-ish purple.
I had a lot of fun playing around with this one - feel free to get creative and try it for yourself!
The Shaman
Next up on the #NegroniWeek tour of Charleston with our #partners campariusa and imbibe is one of my favorite places in the city... gin_joint!
.
Their Negroni variant called 'The Shaman' figuratively and literally required them to PLAY WITH FIRE š„and left the bar patrons ooh-ing and ahh-ing at the process. Mixologist james_b0lt used a table-top siphon (typically used for coffee) to heat the Campari enough to siphon into the upper chamber filled with a "Tropical Teapot" of various citrus and spices (ingredients below). The resulting infusion was then mixed with a floral vermouth, barrel aged gin and black lemon bitters, making for not only one of the most unique Negronis we've ever seen or tasted, but an amazing visual experience as well. Needless to say, multiple 'Shaman' Negronis were ordered that night.
.
To top all of this off, the friendly folks at gin_joint are supporting lcfoodbank this week.
Marshmallow World
š„ Merry Christmas Eve, folks! For our Annual Christmas Party this year, Mick and I came up with the recipe below which was then kegged; needless to say, it was delicious and absolutely demolished by our guests. Hope you enjoy it!
Yule's A Ho Ho!
š š»š Its the holiday season and that means I get to come up with THREE craft cocktail recipes for our Christmas party this weekend! Allow me to introduce the first one, if you like mint-chocolate and Old Fashioned cocktails then this is the recipe for you! PS. Huge thanks to jimbeamofficial for partnering up with me this year!
Apple Wood Smoked Demerara Syrup
Want to take your Old Fashioned to the next level? Why not elevate your traditional sugar cubes to a an applewood smoked demerara simple syrup. Not only does the demerara provide more of a caramel-like flavor than the traditional refined white sugar cubes, the apple wood brings a fruity smokiness to the party. Make this and youāll never use sugar cubes in your Old Fashioned again.
The Bucco Bruce Creamsicle
In honor of #SuperBowlLV - Hereās a tribute to the buccaneers throwback āCreamscicleā uniforms. Widely regarded as the ugliest uniforms in the NFL, I LOVED these growing up, as a Bucs fan living in Orlando, FL. So who are we rooting for tonight??
Globetrotterš
Ok, so Iāll admit I was a big btparsons fan before, but I had the honor of taking his Amaro class at BenConCHS and was completely blown away. Luckily, Charleston, SC was a stop on his āAmaroā book tour and I had the opportunity to pick his brain (again) at edmundsoast while he was in town. He was knowledgeable, down-to-earth and one of the coolest authors Iāve had the honor of meeting. This cocktail recipe is a from his book āAmaroā ā definitely worth the pickup, even if its not personally signed like my copy š
The Greenpoint
I promised cocktails from katherinebrasserie at the gorgeous kimpton@thecardinalws in Winston-Salem, NC - so hereās the first! Its a great balance of sweet, herbal and spicy. The Old Overholt Rye plays nicely with the Carpano Antica and Yellow Chartreuse to create a sturdy, complex cocktail.
PiƱa Colada Milk Punch
š¹Do you like PiƱa Coladas but hate getting caught in the rain?šWell read on below...
.
Sorry I've been a bit MIA lately, I was a little sick but finally feeling well enough to do some experimenting today after reading a couple articles on punch_drink.
.
Let me introduce you to a Clarified Milk Punch, the scalded milk coagulates with the citric acid in the cocktail and strained through a fine sieve to produce the clearest cocktail you've ever seen. Believe it or not, there's actually an ice cube in this viskistyle rocks glass šš„š
Rabbit out of the Hat
Wellāp, if yāall have been following along, you know that two of my favorite things are a stiff Boulevardier and coming up with twists on a classic. This one is no different, the herbal notes of Chartreuse with the addition of grapefruit bitters takes the place of Campari in a funky yet delicious variation. Give it a shot.
The Old Cuban
Recently had a chance to check out the gorgeous victorsocialclub and try their Cuban-inspired cocktail menu. They also were kind enough to provide their cocktail recipe for the Old Cuban!
The Health Kick
I'm always inspired by a couple of you instagram mixologists to create something a little more fun than the typical bourbon-centric cocktail yāall have been so used to seeing. A couple months ago, local kombucha maker, Jonathan Cox, over at onelovekombucha invited me and my wife over to their ābreweryā to see the process and try a couple of flavors he had been working on. When I tried this hibiscus/ginger variety, I instantly knew it would be great in a bright summer cocktail. Combined with a butterfly pea flower ice sphere (ahem⦠thanks for the idea @shesmegnificent), hereās my attempt at a kombucha cocktail.
Salty Summer
IT HAPPENED! Iām so stoked announce my very first canned cocktail collaboration with my good buddies over at dapschs! For the first time ever, youāll be able to physically take home a cocktail pictured here. Dubbed āSALTY SUMMERā - This cocktail is a hybrid between a Spritz, Gose, Negroni Sbagliato and a Salty Dog (ingredients below) and contains TWO servings per can. Its got a grapefruit-y spritz element with a touch of local sea salt that is perfect for a hot summer day under the sun.
The Deano
Last but certainly not least ā Cocktail #3 for the holycityhandcraft // brothersandcraft holiday social tonight plays on our Christmas season heartstrings. Made with local stripedpigdistillery spiced rum, the fall spices infused into the rum lends itself well to this festive, tiki-inspired cocktail.
Bourbon Milk Punch
Hey everyone! Tune in tomorrow morning on Charlestonās very own lowcountrylive on abcnews4. Iāll be making a couple of holiday cocktails LIVE on-air, including this Bourbon Milk Punch, itāll be your new favorite dessert cocktail. Check out the recipe on http://holycityhandcraft.com (Link in bio)
